Technology has become central to the delivery of education; learning technologists have become central to the delivery of technology. As technologists have moved into this more central position in Higher Educational Institutions’ (HEI) life many departments have faced the need to align the delivery of their service to faculty.

The drive for this comes from many sources. Some want to be able induct new staff into a consistent and explicit ‘way of doing things’; others want their staff to be able to quickly move between faculty portfolios to offer a more flexible service; many are facing great pressures from government to document and demonstrate standardised operating procedures.
