 |
Technology is proliferating exponentially; a recent survey listed 2300 technologies available to educators. This presents both unprecedented potential affordances and challenges to educators. The internet has opened enormous possibilities to improve the quality of the student experience and institutional success. Yet, while Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) are acquiring more and more technology tools they are discovering the challenges of persuading their institution to adopt them, and to use them creatively and effectively.
Learning technologists have responded with commitment and integrity to this challenge. Team members are usually well informed and have honed their traditional skills such as instructional design, theories of learning, teaching and assessment to a high level. Yet, dig beneath the surface and a level of deep frustration exists in their day to day work on campus. While they have a firm, often passionate desire to make a difference and contribute meaningfully to the success of the institution they are not convinced their strategies are effective enough.
